Horizontal Sundial - Granite

Horizontal Sundial The dial plate of this sundial is made from a granite called Verde Bahia and is 41 cm square. The gnomon is a brass cone and the pedestal is made from white concrete with a grey patina. The pedestal was purchased locally.

The hour lines as well as other engravings are highlighted with copper paint and the analemma with gold paint. The frame is engraved but not painted.

The hour lines for this sundial are corrected for longitude and indicate zonal solar time. A noon analemma is included and will indicate clock time noon for any given day. The time is read by using the tip of the shadow cast by the conical gnomon. The declination lines for the equinoxes and solstices are included. The tip of the shadow will follow these lines on those 4 particular days.

The sundial also has furniture including the latitude, longitude, a compass rose, the year it was constructed and the maker's initials.
