We would like
to show you where the Pinawa Heritage Sundial will be
built. The location of the sundial site is at the centre
of the community and is very near the town marina which
is located on the Winnipeg River. Although at this time
the site is but a large grassed area, it is a very
beautiful location. Look carefully and you can see the
location of the dial plate in the photograph above.
We will be
turning the site into a small park that will include a
variety of other sundials to be built in future years.
The park will be an inviting place where visitors and
residents can come not only to see the sundials but to
stay and enjoy their surroundings. It will be a meeting
place and a place for contemplation.
Pinawa has
been involved in the Communities in Bloom program for
some time now. Our group is called Pinawa in Bloom.
Members of this group have undertaken the design and
development of the park landscape. We hope to do some
interesting projects at the site.
Two of the
light standards have been removed from the sundial site.
One just simply detracted from the gnomon once it was
erected and just had to go. The second was removed and
the pedastal was used to install an electrical service
panel which now provides power to the site.
As well as the
two remaining light standards, there are an additional
seven in the area that we have access to. These are no
longer powered and the luminaires can be removed, leaving
nine poles that our group can use.
As the site
develops we will bring you more photographs and
information on the progress of the project.
